Thousands of households in the Canary Islands can benefit from new public aid to change their air conditioning. The regional government has launched the call, funded by Next Generation EU funds, aiming to replace old equipment with more efficient ones and reduce energy consumption.
The Subsidies for Green Transition 2026, managed by the Government of the Canary Islands, are aimed at "improving energy efficiency, the use of renewable energies, and the implementation of intelligent systems." These aids, directed at both individuals and companies, seek to "promote energy saving and reduce greenhouse gas emissions," in line with European regulations.
Although the deadline to apply for these direct subsidies closed on June 22, interested parties can access them again in the second quarter of 2027. However, the Tax Agency maintains until December 31, 2026, deductions in personal income tax (IRPF) for actions that improve the energy efficiency of homes.
Homeowners can apply for 20% or 40% deductions on their income tax return, depending on the energy savings achieved, with deductible investment limits of 5,000 and 7,500 euros respectively. To access these reductions, a pre- and post-work energy certificate is required.
In addition to the Canary Islands' aid, other autonomous communities such as the Valencian Community, Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia, and Aragon offer subsidies for the replacement of air conditioning units. In most calls, it is mandatory for the installation to be carried out by an authorized professional and for the old system to be correctly removed for recycling.
