The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands has launched a new subsidy call worth 1,875,000 euros to promote sustainable urban mobility on the islands.

This initiative, co-financed by the FEDER Canarias 2021-2027 Program, aims to encourage both the acquisition of electric or zero-emission vehicles for collective passenger transport and the implementation of public access charging infrastructure. The primary objective is to continue advancing in emission reduction and the decarbonization of transport in the archipelago.
The Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy, Mariano Hernández Zapata, emphasized the importance of sustainable mobility as "a key piece" for the ecological and energy transition of the Canary Islands. According to his statements, the Government seeks to "promote measures that facilitate the incorporation of cleaner and more efficient technologies in public and professional transport," thereby enabling fleet renewal, expansion of the charging network, and offering new opportunities to administrations, companies, and professionals.
The line of aid for acquiring electric vehicles is aimed at public or private companies providing collective passenger transport services, as well as holders of taxi and VTC licenses. Subsidies can reach up to 30,000 euros per vehicle, depending on its category and whether an old vehicle is scrapped. For its part, the charging infrastructure line will subsidize the installation of public access charging points, covering up to 100% of the eligible investment for local corporations and public companies.
A specific fund reservation of up to 625,000 euros has been established for transport companies and professionals, town councils, and island councils (cabildos). Applications will be processed in order of submission until the available credit is exhausted, with the application period running from June 12 to July 13 through the electronic headquarters of the Ministry.
Additionally, the Ministry has organized an online training session for Friday, June 19, at 11:00 AM, lasting approximately one hour. This technical meeting, aimed at town councils, island councils, business federations such as Femete and Femepa, confederations like CEOE Tenerife and Confederación Canaria de Empresarios, the ITER, the OTE, the Gran Canaria Island Energy Council, and other entities and professionals in the sector, will detail the requirements and key aspects of the call.
