The Government of Canarias has approved a new program with €200,000 for 2026, aimed at improving self-employed workers' knowledge and access to available public aid in the islands.

The initiative, named 'Por Cuenta Propia: Program for the Dissemination and Promotion of Self-Employment in Canarias', will be managed by the Association of Self-Employed Workers of Canarias (ATA Canarias) through a direct grant. This measure is part of the modification of the Strategic Subsidy Plan for the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Trade, and Self-Employed for the 2024-2026 period, published in the Official Gazette of Canarias (BOC).
The main objective of this program is to enhance the "knowledge, access, and utilization" of various aids, incentives, programs, and public resources for the self-employed collective in the Archipelago. Planned actions include information, dissemination, awareness-raising, training, and support, aiming to foster the creation, consolidation, and growth of self-employment.
The Directorate General for Self-Employed will oversee the development of this program, which has a budget allocation of €200,000 from the Canary Islands Community funds for the 2026 fiscal year. This is not a call for direct financial aid for self-employed individuals, but rather a subsidy line for the collaborating entity.
Specific goals of the program include improving effective knowledge of available aid, promoting the sustainability of self-employment projects, and strengthening the dissemination of public policies aimed at this key sector for the Canarian economy.
