Canary Islands: Imports drop 16.4% and exports 5.9% in the first half of 2026

The trade deficit reaches 7,463 million euros, while the coverage rate stands at 21.9% according to provisional ISTAC data.

Imports in the Canary Islands between January and June 2026 recorded a provisional decrease of 16.4%, while exports fell by 5.9% in the same period.

The value of imports in the Canary Islands between January and June 2026 provisionally amounted to a total of 9,561.043 million euros, representing a decrease of 16.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. On the other hand, total exports stood at 2,098.018 million euros, with a variation rate of -5.9% compared to 2025.
The accumulated trade deficit reached 7,463.026 million euros. The coverage rate, calculated as the ratio between exports and imports, stood at 21.9%.
Regarding the composition of imports during June 2026, 30.6% corresponded to machinery and transport equipment. Products related to food (20.9%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (15.7%) were also notable. 74.9% of imports came from the rest of Spain, 15.7% from the EU-27_2020, 91.6% from Europe as a whole, and 3.8% from America.
In terms of exports, 26.1% were petroleum and its derivatives, 12.6% were food-related products, and 10.5% were machinery and transport equipment. 26.3% of exports were destined for the rest of Spain, 29.4% for the EU-27_2020, 62.8% for Europe, and 4.0% for America.
