The Antigua City Council has announced an increase in aid for farmers, ranchers, and fishermen, coinciding with the celebration of the FEAGA 2026 fair in the municipality.

The town of Antigua is preparing to host the Fuerteventura Agricultural, Livestock, and Fishing Fair (FEAGA) 2026, a key event for the island's primary sector. This edition, which has gained well-deserved regional recognition, will serve as a showcase for both the strengths and demands of professionals in agriculture and fishing.

"I take this opportunity to echo the main demand of the primary sector today, given the rise in fuel and costs, making the involvement of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo de Fuerteventura necessary to create special and direct aid for the current situation."

In response to the sector's needs, especially the increase in fuel costs, the Antigua City Council has decided to increase the budget allocation for subsidies to farmers, ranchers, and fishermen. This measure has been promoted by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, in coordination with the mayor's office.
Antigua, with a deep agricultural and livestock tradition, is a municipality that values and defends its roots. It hosts the island's first natural port and promotes ancestral practices such as the breeding of coastal goats, the 'apañadas' (round-ups), and rancher gatherings. Furthermore, it organizes free training courses to encourage the use of 'gavias' (traditional cultivation plots) as farmland, demonstrating a constant commitment to the sector's development.
The organization of FEAGA 2026 has involved the collaboration of various stakeholders. The work of a local artisan in designing the municipal stand has been highlighted, as well as the efforts of Public Works and Services operators in its assembly. The El Gorrión cheese factory, from Tiscamanita, contributed two cheeses weighing over four kilograms each. The Antigua Local Police has also been recognized for its coordination with other security forces to ensure the smooth running of the event.
