The Government of the Canary Islands has confirmed a regional tax deduction of up to 120 euros in the Income Tax Return for unemployed residents of the archipelago who meet specific requirements.

This fiscal measure, promoted by the regional government, aims to alleviate the tax burden on unemployed taxpayers. Although the amount is limited, it can be significant for households with moderate incomes, adding to other tax benefits.

"The final amount of the aid can reach 120 euros depending on the personal situation and whether the taxation is individual or joint."

To qualify for this deduction, applicants must have been unemployed for more than six months in the fiscal year, have received unemployment benefits during that period, and have their habitual residence in the Canary Islands. In the case of joint tax returns, each family unit member who meets these conditions can apply the deduction individually.
The Tax Agency has established specific income limits for this deduction. Employment income must range between 15,876 and 22,000 euros, while other income (savings, rentals, investments) cannot exceed 1,600 euros annually. It is crucial to review the draft Income Tax Return, as this deduction is not applied automatically and must be manually included in the regional deductions section for the Canary Islands, between boxes 916 and 945 of Renta Web.
It is important to remember that, as a deduction and not direct aid, it only reduces the tax payable. If the regional tax quota is already zero, the taxpayer will not receive an additional amount.
