Used vehicle prices in the province of Malaga continue at historically high levels, closely mirroring those of new cars, although the sector is now observing a stabilization after years of significant increases.

In Malaga, the sale of second-hand cars significantly outpaces that of newly registered vehicles, with a ratio of three to one. The average price for a used car is around 18,000 euros, though specific, newer models can easily reach 30,000 euros.
According to industry sources, the most expensive vehicles are typically high-end models, modern SUVs, or electrified vehicles with low mileage. In contrast, cars older than ten or fifteen years are the most affordable, priced under 10,000 euros. It has been noted that, in some instances, a nearly new car can match or even exceed the price of an entry-level new model, attributed to the general market price increase and high demand for immediately available vehicles.

Although the price gap between new and used cars has narrowed, it remains substantial. While a new car exceeds 20,000 euros, often approaching 25,000 or 30,000 euros, the used vehicle market continues to be a more affordable alternative for many buyers. Prices peaked in 2022, driven by the global microchip crisis that delayed new car registrations.
The normalization of new car production has increased supply and contributed to price reductions, also impacting the second-hand market. Nevertheless, the rise in new car prices has had a collateral effect on used cars, which have also seen their prices increase. Despite this, the used car market in Malaga experienced a slight 2% reduction in the first quarter of this year, with 24,876 units sold.
In both markets, there is a growing demand for electric and hybrid vehicles, influenced by energy uncertainty and rising fuel prices. Sales of these models in the used car market have doubled in the first quarter of the year, now representing over 4% of the total. Buyers are more informed, price-sensitive, and attentive to efficiency and new technologies.
