The Higher Technical School of Engineering at the University of Huelva is organizing a new edition of the Sustainable Urban Race (SUR26), a solar vehicle competition that will bring together ten student teams from various educational levels next Thursday, May 14.

The El Carmen University Campus boulevard will be the venue for this event, starting at 9:30 AM. The main purpose of the initiative is to raise awareness among young people about energy and mobility challenges in urban environments, while stimulating their creativity and the practical application of technical knowledge in the development of sustainable prototypes.
Participants must build a solar electric vehicle with at least three wheels, capable of carrying one person. The organization provides a motor kit with uniform specifications for all teams. Each edition incorporates new technological challenges that students must overcome, defined annually by the organizers.
The evaluation of each prototype will be based on four fundamental tests: energy efficiency, speed, maneuverability, and a popular vote via social media. Additionally, a specialized jury will assess aspects such as aesthetic design and technological innovations implemented in each vehicle. The balanced composition of teams is also encouraged, aiming for equitable participation from both genders.
In this edition, the competition features ten teams from Bachillerato (pre-university), Secondary, and vocational training, hailing from the provinces of Huelva, Seville and Granada. This educational project involves over 30 teachers and approximately 400 students, highlighting the significant interest generated by the initiative.
The event receives support from various entities, including the Atlantic Copper Foundation, the Palos de la Frontera City Council, the Social Council of the University of Huelva, the Provincial Chair of the Huelva Provincial Council, the Gabitel Hydrogen Chair, the Seabery Extended Realities Chair, the Official College of Industrial Technical Engineers of Huelva, and the Research Center in Technology, Energy and Sustainability (CITES) of the University of Huelva.
