The Malaga municipality experienced a decrease of 511 unemployed individuals compared to August 2025, bringing the total figure to 3,720 people, of whom 1,526 are men and 2,194 are women. This figure is the best for an August month since 2007, when unemployment stood at 3,124 people, according to data from the Junta de Andalucía's Argos Observatory.
Regarding hiring, 1,362 contracts were formalized last month, primarily linked to the hospitality sector.
Social Security affiliation also shows a positive trend. In July, the latest month with official data, Torremolinos recorded 28,270 affiliated workers, representing a 5% year-on-year increase (1,361 more workers). The general regime grew by 5.4% to 21,753 affiliates, while self-employed workers increased by 3.4% to 6,078, highlighting the high percentage of self-employed individuals in the province.
The month-on-month affiliation in July was also positive, with an increase of 595 workers compared to June, a 2.1% growth.
In the hotel sector, the Association of Hoteliers of the Costa del Sol (AEHCOS) predicts that Torremolinos will lead occupancy in the province during September, with an estimate of 93%, surpassing the provincial forecast of 88.58%. In August, the municipality already achieved 95.5% occupancy, above the provincial average of 92.85%, driven by the international market and the recovery of national tourism.
Official data from the National Statistics Institute confirms that in July, Torremolinos led overnight stays in Andalusia with 699,089, a year-on-year increase of nearly 7%, surpassing cities such as Seville, Granada, or Málaga capital. Additionally, it received 141,219 travelers in July, a 12% increase compared to the same month last year.
