The Roquetas de Mar City Council has announced the opening of the application period for 34 vacant stalls in its weekly market, an initiative aimed at strengthening the local economy and street vending sector.

The call for applications, already published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Almería (BOPA), establishes a one-month period for interested parties to apply for these spots. Applications can be submitted both in person at the General Registry of the City Council and through its electronic headquarters.

"The Thursday market is a fundamental economic engine for Roquetas de Mar, as it not only contributes to the development of local commerce but also helps keep alive a sector as important as street vending, generating employment opportunities and fostering economic activity in our municipality."

Alba Acedo · Councillor for Commerce
The weekly market, which currently features 278 stalls, takes place every Thursday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the plot located between Avenida Unión Europea and Avenida Reino de España. This space is considered vital for the economy of Roquetas de Mar, not only for its direct commercial impact but also for its ability to generate employment and energize the social life of the town.
The process for awarding the stalls will be conducted under the principles of publicity, transparency, and equality, in accordance with current regulations on street vending. Should the number of applications exceed the available spots, a competitive bidding system will be applied. This system will evaluate criteria such as the quality of the commercial project, experience in the sector, the applicant's economic and social situation, and difficulties in accessing the labor market.
The granted authorizations will have a duration of 15 years, with the possibility of extension, aiming to provide stability to the awardees and facilitate the consolidation of their businesses over time.
