The temporary joint venture formed by CAF and Magtel has been awarded the contract to renovate safety installations on Line 400, covering the 97-kilometer railway section between Espeluy (Jaén) and Córdoba.

This comprehensive project aims to update existing signaling and control systems, significantly enhancing safety, reliability, and availability of the railway infrastructure along this crucial Andalusian connection.
The technical proposal submitted by the UTE includes the implementation of 17 new electronic interlockings and two object controllers. These new interlockings will be strategically distributed across several stations in the province of Córdoba, such as Campus Universitario de Rabanales, Los Cansinos, Villafranca de Córdoba, El Carpio, Pedro Abad, Montoro, and Villa del Río. They will also be installed in stations within the province of Jaén, including Los Siles, Marmolejo, Arjonilla, Andújar, Villanueva de la Reina, Espeluy, Triángulo de Espeluy, Mengíbar-Artichuela, and Jaén.
The project also involves the construction of specific technical buildings to house the signaling equipment. Furthermore, a set of key systems for railway operation will be installed, including the ASFA Digital system, LED signals, electromechanical motors, and new train detection systems.
Regarding train detection, stations will utilize axle counters, while the track will be equipped with audio frequency track circuits. An exception will be the Jaén-Espeluy section, where detection will be carried out entirely by axle counters. The modernization will be completed with the installation of communication and telephony systems, video surveillance, and access control, along with a new fiber optic cabling network to integrate all elements and ensure the overall system's operability.
