The Strait's dock, after a difficult beginning to the year, managed to regain its usual pace with a strong month in March. In the first three months of the year, it accumulated a movement of 23.3 million tons, representing 17.4% of the total goods managed by state-owned ports in Spain.

Although this figure represents a 7.2% decrease compared to the same period last year, the recovery in March was remarkable, with 9.3 million tons moved and a year-on-year growth of 6.9%. This positive trend generates optimism for the remainder of the year.

Nationally, state-owned ports moved a total of 133.2 million tons in the first quarter, implying a slight decrease of 1.3%. However, March showed a generalized improvement, especially in container traffic, which grew by 3.6%, reaching almost 4.5 million TEUs.

In Andalusia, state-owned ports managed 36.7 million tons, 3.37% less than the previous year. Nevertheless, March was significantly better, with 13.4 million tons and an advance of 3.95%. The Port of Málaga stands out with a 29.3% increase in the quarter, and the Port of Almería, which grew by 15.4% in March.

Regarding passenger traffic, the ports of the Bay of Algeciras (Algeciras and Tarifa) remained the busiest on the peninsula, only surpassed by Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Despite a 2.6% decrease until March, they moved over a million travelers, with a strong recovery in March.

The Port of Málaga experienced a notable growth in passengers, doubling its partial March record compared to the previous year, with 91,431 travelers and a 52.3% increase, driven by the rise in cruise passengers.
