An old snail factory in Los Lobos, Cuevas del Almanzora, is embarking on a new phase, concentrating on the production of frozen lemon juice and dehydrated vegetables, seeking profitability after the cessation of its previous activity.

The town of Los Lobos, within the municipality of Cuevas del Almanzora, is witnessing a remarkable industrial reconversion. A 3,000-square-meter facility, initially designed as a slaughterhouse and flanked by old mining chimneys, was transformed six years ago into the province's first snail factory. However, failing to achieve the expected profitability, the plant has now evolved once again.
Currently, the plant is dedicated to the production of dehydrated vegetables, including varieties of tomato, pepper, and zucchini, which are sold in bags and jars. Additionally, it prepares tomato, eggplant, and onion salads with olive oil. The company is also exploring the possibility of making shipments to Poland.

"The next step is to produce frozen lemon juice, which has high demand and could be viable in a few months."

This initiative is part of Sociedad Agraria de Transformación (SAT) Los Guiraos, an entity with decades of experience in cultivating leafy greens in the Cuevas del Almanzora countryside. The factory is located on a plateau that preserves the restored relics of ancient silver foundries from Barranco Francés and El Jaroso.
SAT Los Guiraos already participates in agri-food fairs such as Almanzora Gourmet and is integrated into Sabores de Almería, a brand promoted by the Provincial Council, offering products like broccoli and cauliflower in Guazamara sauce. From its facilities, one can see the cultivated fields, the scattered hamlets of Cuevas del Almanzora such as Grima, El Ventorrillo El Largo, El Molino de Tarahal, Los Lobos, and Los Guiraos, and even the sea of Mojácar in the distance.
