The Municipal Water Company of Córdoba (EMACSA) has shared its innovative digital transformation model for water cycle management at the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition 2026, held in Glasgow.
The managing director of EMACSA, María Teresa Carrillo, was a speaker at the international congress, detailing the company's progress towards more efficient and sustainable water resource management.
In the technical session on "Digital Transformation and AI Applications in Water Management", Carrillo presented the company's roadmap, titled "Smart Water, Smarter Future: EMACSA’s Digitalization 4.0 Journey". This strategy focuses on integrating real-time data, standardizing processes, and utilizing advanced tools for decision-making.
Among the highlighted achievements is the management of information from over 100,000 smart meters and two million daily data points. This data enables comprehensive consumption monitoring, early detection of leaks and anomalies, and the development of predictive maintenance models.
Carrillo emphasized that digitalization goes beyond simply adopting new technologies; it involves redefining work methodologies to anticipate problems, base decisions on knowledge, and optimize service efficiency and sustainability. Obtaining real-time data is crucial for understanding the network's status and acting proactively.
The strategy presented in Glasgow includes modernizing control systems, unifying operational information, and progressively implementing advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
EMACSA's participation in this international event positions Córdoba's experience as a replicable model for other water management companies, reinforcing the municipal company's commitment to innovation and sustainability. The managing director concluded by stressing the importance of innovation having a tangible impact on water management and, ultimately, on the quality of service provided to citizens.
