The resolution, published in the Official State Gazette on April 9, details that Trinity Energy Storage, SL, the project promoter, requested the definitive closure of these infrastructures. The project involves the dismantling and subsequent restoration of eleven gas facilities and the inactivation of seven sections of gas pipeline, totaling approximately 34 kilometers in length.
These facilities extend along a line of over 43 kilometers between the municipalities of Almonte, in the province of Huelva, and Aznalcázar, in the province of Seville. The well-sealing process includes cutting and recovering the production pipeline in its first 50 to 150 meters of depth, leaving the rest in the well and sealing it with cement barriers.
Once the surface facilities are dismantled, actions will be taken to restore the land to its original state, allowing for natural, agricultural, or livestock use. This includes soil decompaction and revegetation with native species. The ministry has determined that it is not necessary to subject the project to an ordinary environmental assessment, as no significant adverse environmental effects are anticipated if the established measures are met.
It is worth noting that in March 2025, the application for authorization for the Marismas-3NE well, associated with underground natural gas storage in Almonte, was submitted for public information. This project, promoted by Trinity Almacenamientos Andalucía, S.A., generated strong opposition from environmental organizations, political parties, the Almonte City Council, and the Junta de Andalucía itself, as well as the park management.
