The contracting board has selected the temporary business union (UTE) formed by Sando, OHL, and ITRC to execute the works for the future Imec microelectronics center in Málaga's Andalucía Technology Park, with an offer of 163 million euros.

The Spanish Government initiated the public tender process for the construction of the Imec microelectronics center, a Belgian institute, at Málaga's PTA last January. The Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT) structured the contract into two lots, covering both the drafting of the executive project and the execution of the construction works.
The main lot, which includes the project drafting and the construction of the complex's buildings, has been awarded to the UTE comprising the Málaga-based company Sando, OHL, and ITRC. Their economic proposal amounts to 163,400,806.16 euros, representing a reduction of approximately 20 million euros from the initial tender price set by SETT, which was around 183 million euros.
The winning UTE was the only one to exceed the minimum required points in the selection process, achieving a total score of 66.65 out of 100. The participation in this temporary business union is distributed with 40% for OHL, 30% for Innovaciones Técnicas y Recursos Constructivos (ITRC), and the remaining 30% for Sando.
This contract covers the construction of a complex dedicated to research, development, and innovation (R&D&i) for 300-millimeter wafers, including a 2,000-square-meter "cleanroom," a central services building, a gas platform, a hazardous materials warehouse, a pump room and fire protection tanks, a control building, and an office building. External works such as access roads, internal distribution roads, parking areas, and landscaped zones are also included.
The second lot, of lesser value and focused on the underground line and the 66 kV sectioning center for Imec, has been proposed for award to Grupo Render Industrial. Their offer of 4.9 million euros surpassed those of three other companies, achieving 88 valuation points against a base tender budget of 5.8 million euros.
Once the selected companies submit the required documentation and the necessary checks are completed, the formal awarding of the contracts will proceed. This project is part of the Strategic Project for Microelectronics and Semiconductors (PERTE Chip), funded by the Spanish Government in collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía and with the support of the Málaga City Council, technically coordinated by the public company INECO.
