CapGen Seeds has unveiled an updated seed catalog in Níjar, Almería, focusing on providing greater productive security, climate adaptation, and profitability for farmers, with improved varieties for tomatoes, watermelons, cucumbers, and peppers.
CapGen Seeds is preparing to participate in Expolevante-Níjar, taking place from April 22 to 24 in Campohermoso, Almería. At this event, the company will highlight its varietal proposal designed to address current challenges in the agricultural sector, such as pressure from new viruses, the increase in emerging pests, and market demands.
Among the new introductions, the export pear tomato Panoramix continues to gain traction, especially in producing areas like Níjar. This variety is characterized by its uniformity, consistent caliber, and high firmness, maintaining good performance throughout the entire cultivation cycle. With an average weight of 100-110 grams and an intense red color, Panoramix offers a resistance package that positions it as a robust option for export.
In the seedless black watermelon segment, the Tentación variety is consolidating its presence. Its organoleptic profile, with high sugar content and a crunchy texture, along with commercial calibers of 6 to 8 kilos, makes it a competitive option for both production and commercialization, where regularity and internal quality are crucial.
As a notable innovation, CapGen Seeds introduces Jarama, a new Almería-type cucumber, developed to ensure productive stability under demanding conditions. This variety stands out for its balance between vegetative and generative vigor, with a plant structure that promotes aeration and improves performance in hot cycles. One of its main advantages is the incorporation of resistance to CGMMV, a significant threat in cucumber cultivation. The Jarama fruit exhibits high commercial quality, with marked ridging, uniform color, and absence of defects like bottlenecking, which translates into better presentation and longer post-harvest life.
The company's tomato offering is complemented by the pre-commercial material CGT3582, aimed at the cocktail tomato on the vine segment. This material combines visual appeal, resistance to ToBRFV, and excellent post-harvest performance, targeting higher value-added markets.
The main focus of this edition will be the new range of California peppers, named “Los Guardianes del Pimiento” (The Pepper Guardians). This genetic line has been developed to cover different cultivation cycles and meet the current needs of farmers. The range incorporates a resistance package against powdery mildew (Lt) and nematodes (Ma, Mi, Mj), along with improvements in fruit setting under high-temperature conditions and greater productive stability.
Participation in Expolevante-Níjar underscores CapGen Seeds' commitment to an increasingly professionalized agriculture, where genetics play a fundamental role in decision-making. The renewal of its catalog is the result of continuous R&D work, focused on developing safer, more productive varieties adapted to real cultivation conditions, reinforcing its position as a benchmark in the sector.
