The project, a subsidiary of the Moeve group, will invest approximately 24 million euros in the Antequera region. Its purpose is to transform farm slurry and olive mill wastewater into green gas, which will be injected into the natural gas network, generating around 60 GWh. The facility will use a thermophilic anaerobic digestion system to process manure and other industrial residues.
After biogas purification, biomethane and a high-quality stabilized digestate will be obtained. This byproduct will be valued as an agricultural fertilizer, helping to improve soil structure and reduce the use of chemicals.
The plant will create 10 direct jobs, including a plant manager, a maintenance manager, seven operators, and a security guard. Additionally, between 10 and 20 indirect jobs are expected to be created, related to logistics and the transport of substrates and digestate.
The process is based on a circular economy technology that converts organic matter into renewable energy and fertilizers. The biomethane will be directly injected into the natural gas network for domestic or industrial use, while the digestate will be commercialized as fertilizer and used for agricultural irrigation.
The project promoters highlight its “perfect fit” within Antequera's economic and social system, given the importance of agricultural activity in the area. The plant aims to offer a solution for organic waste management, contributing to climate change mitigation and reducing local businesses' energy dependence.
This initiative aligns with the company's commitment to decarbonizing the economy and the European Agenda 2030 strategy, seeking to transform waste into high-value energy and agronomic resources.
