Yoni Pallás Costa has been appointed the new head of the Urology Department at the Valencia General Hospital. Pallás Costa, a graduate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia, completed his specialized training in Urology via MIR at the same hospital. He also holds a Master's degree in Functional Urology and Neurourology and another in Prostate Cancer.
Since joining the department in April 2016, Pallás Costa has spearheaded several minimally invasive oncological surgery programs. He has introduced advanced techniques for treating Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, such as REZUM or EcoLaser. He is notably a pioneer in the implementation of Holmium laser enucleation for prostate surgery in Valencia.
During his leadership of the Prostate Cancer and LUTS Unit, he has promoted the use of robotic surgery and focused on less invasive treatments like HIFU, as well as active surveillance. The primary objective has been to reduce complications and preserve patients' quality of life.
