The document, which includes the strategic environmental and territorial study, covers an area of 2.2 million square meters. It will be located north of the urban center, next to the La Matanza road and parallel to the A-7 highway. The land, currently used for citrus cultivation, is planned for transformation into industrial and tertiary use.
As explained by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Matías Ruiz, the initial approval will open a public information period of 45 days. During this time, interested citizens and entities can consult the file and submit their objections.
The documentation will be available through the electronic headquarters of the Orihuela City Council. In parallel, 28 sectoral reports will be requested from various public administrations and supply companies, necessary to continue processing the project.
The environmental documentation incorporates conditions derived from studies on flood risk, traffic, and fire prevention, as well as consultations with competent bodies on infrastructure and supplies.
Once the public information period is completed and the relevant reports are obtained, the final plan proposal and the strategic environmental and territorial assessment file will be prepared. This document will be submitted to the competent regional authority for evaluation and, if applicable, for the issuance of the Strategic Environmental Declaration.
The background to this proposal dates back to the general planning review initiated in 2013, which expired in 2018. The file was resumed in 2020 with the presentation of the draft plan and the initial strategic document, and in November 2022, the environmental scope document that is now under consideration was issued.
