Kia Europe has presented the new Niro, a new hybrid CUV designed to simplify daily mobility thanks to efficient technology, a practical crossover format, and optimized connectivity. The updated model introduces a hybrid-only powertrain for the European market, positioning the new Niro as the most affordable entry point to electrified mobility. By combining hybrid efficiency with a familiar driving experience, the model offers a practical and accessible solution for daily mobility needs. With a focus on usability, safety, and technology, the new Niro reinforces its role within the highly competitive hybrid CUV segment, where demand for efficient vehicles continues to grow.
The Niro has quickly established itself as another Kia success story in Europe. Since its launch, it has been positioned as an accessible and practical option for those starting their journey into electrified mobility, meeting the diverse needs of European customers. Its elevated driving position, generous interior space, and practical design ensure comfort and ease of use for daily commutes, while a comprehensive suite of safety features enhances driver confidence.
Another key factor in the Niro's success has been its flexible powertrain strategy, with hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions tailored to different customer needs. As the hybrid variant has become the best-seller, the refreshed Niro is now offered exclusively with a modern hybrid powertrain.
Consequently, the refreshed Niro is exclusively equipped with a modern hybrid powertrain, combining a 75 kW 1.6-litre GDI direct-injection gasoline engine with a 32 kW electric motor. This provides a combined output of 138 hp, which is transmitted to the front wheels via a rapid six-speed dual-clutch transmission (6 DCT). This configuration has been specially developed to facilitate responsible driving in daily use, while offering the range and comfort typical of conventional powertrains. Furthermore, it achieves a top speed of 170 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds.
The new Niro features a series of exterior updates designed to align the model with Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy, while retaining its distinctive crossover identity. The aesthetic refresh focuses on visual clarity, enhanced lighting technology, and functional proportions suitable for daily mobility, giving the new Kia Niro a more modern and assertive appearance.
Redesigned front and rear bumpers give the vehicle a sharper, more imposing look and a stronger road presence. At the front, the light clusters now adopt a vertical orientation, in line with Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy, reinforcing a more distinctive and cohesive visual identity. These standard LED headlights, equipped with multi-faceted reflector (MFR) technology, not only provide a high-quality look but also improve light distribution for enhanced safety in daily use.
At the rear, a completely redesigned tailgate harmonizes with a new light signature: the license plate recess has been removed to create a cleaner, more minimalist surface, enhancing the vehicle's sense of width and premium image. The new lighting patterns further reinforce the model's modern design language and ensure greater coherence with the front.
With a length of 4,430 mm and a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, the new Niro offers generous space within the compact CUV segment. The boot capacity is 430 litres (VDA). The towing capacity of up to 1,010 kg (braked) allows the vehicle to adapt to a wide variety of needs, both for leisure and practical use.
Aerodynamic efficiency has been optimized with a drag coefficient of 0.28. Customers can choose between the proven 16-inch alloy wheels and the new design 18-inch variants for higher trim levels.
Inside, materials and color combinations have also been updated to offer a more contemporary ambiance. Furthermore, the new Niro features a redesigned dashboard and center console architecture, centered around a 12.3-inch (31 cm) 'Connected Cockpit Navigation' (ccNC) infotainment system. The new interface integrates navigation, vehicle functions, and connectivity services into a single digital environment.
Key technological features include: 12.3-inch (31 cm) screen for infotainment and instrumentation; Over-the-Air (OTA) updates for navigation and software; Smartphone access with Digital Key 2.0; Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; Head-up display; Wireless smartphone charging.
The new Niro offers a comprehensive package of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) from the base trim level, expanding its safety offering. Notable safety technologies include: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA 1.5): a camera and radar-based system capable of detecting vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists; Highway Driving Assist (HDA 2.0): combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering function for assisted highway driving; Lane Following Assist (LFA 2): helps keep the vehicle within its lane; Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA): rear corner radar sensors detect vehicles in the driver's blind spot when the turn signal is activated and apply steering or braking to avoid collisions; Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA): uses a front-mounted camera and navigation data to identify speed limit signs and maintain the vehicle's speed accordingly; Parking Distance Warning (PDW; front and rear): ultrasonic sensors detect obstacles and alert the driver when maneuvering at low speeds; Rear View Monitor (RVM): displays the area behind the vehicle on the infotainment screen during parking and reversing.
The vehicle also introduces the Hand-on-Detection (HOD) function, using capacitive sensors, which confirms driver engagement when using assisted driving features. Collectively, these systems contribute to safer daily driving by helping the driver maintain lane position, monitoring surrounding traffic, and reacting to potential hazards. The vehicle's advanced sensor suite also enables practical functions, such as Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA).
