David García Rodríguez, José Javier Samper Zapater, and Juan José Martínez Durá, from the Integrated Laboratory of Intelligent Systems and Traffic Information Technologies (LISITT) at the Institute of Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC), will serve as guest editors for a special issue of the international journal Remote Sensing. This center is part of the scientific-academic area of the Parc Científic of the Universitat de València (UV).
The special issue, titled “Artificial Intelligence and Big Earth Observation Data for Sustainable Development Goals”, will allow the researchers to define the theme, invite international experts, and oversee the analysis and review process of submitted works. Their participation positions IRTIC as a benchmark in the use of artificial intelligence and the analysis of large volumes of Earth observation data to address sustainable development challenges.
The special issue aims to gather contributions on advances in remote sensing that utilize Earth observation big data to support the Sustainable Development Goals. Topics will include artificial intelligence, machine learning, geospatial analysis, and interoperable data frameworks. The call for papers is open until March 31, 2027.
Submissions may cover methodological advancements, operational applications, validation strategies, and FAIR data approaches (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). Particular emphasis will be placed on how geospatial technologies contribute to environmental monitoring, climate resilience, agriculture, water resource management, biodiversity, and urban sustainability.
The journal Remote Sensing publishes research, reviews, and technical notes on remote sensing science, from sensor design to its applications in geosciences and environmental sciences. Through this special issue, IRTIC strengthens its profile in geospatial technologies and applied artificial intelligence for transforming environmental information into useful knowledge for management and decision-making.
