An emblematic bar in Benicàssim, with over 60 years of family history, is facing its second generational handover, passing the torch to the children of the current owner.

Bar Pons in Benicàssim, an establishment that needs no sign to be recognized, has witnessed the passage of time and the evolution of the municipality. After more than six decades since the Pons family began its journey, the business is entering a new phase with a generational handover.
The current owner, who has dedicated his entire life to hospitality, started working at the bar at just 14 years old. The business's history began in 1960 when his father launched the family establishment. In 1990, the owner opened the current Bar Pons with his sister, maintaining its essence of a bar counter, closeness, and a clear offering of tapas, combined dishes, and sandwiches, opening at six in the morning.

"The philosophy is tapas, combined dishes, and sandwiches. We open at six in the morning."

This schedule has made the bar a meeting point for those starting their workday and those finishing a night out, especially in Benicàssim during the summer. The owner highlights that three generations gather in his establishment, from early risers to night owls.
The trajectory of Bar Pons has gone hand in hand with the growth of Benicàssim, which has transformed from a small nucleus to exceeding 20,000 inhabitants. The bar also evolved, transitioning from an ice cream parlor to a full-fledged hospitality business. Despite the changes, the menu has remained faithful to the dishes that have always worked, with cuttlefish being the most popular among customers.

"Here we deal with people and we are like psychologists. People come, they tell you their problems, their experiences… good and bad things."

After more than 44 years of contributions, the owner began the handover just over a year ago, maintaining an "active retirement" while his children start to take on responsibilities. The transition is natural, although the owner acknowledges the toughness of the hospitality industry. However, he is aware of the value of continuing a family history so deeply rooted in the municipality.
The owner looks to the future with the peace of mind of someone who has given everything, planning to fully retire in one or two years to enjoy his free time. Meanwhile, Bar Pons will continue to open every morning, offering the same essence and being a place where, in addition to food, stories are heard.
