According to data released by the State Public Employment Service, under the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the unemployment figure in Córdoba is now below the 50,000 mark. This 1% monthly decrease is reinforced by an 11.48% year-on-year drop, with 6,381 fewer unemployed than in March 2025, highlighting a positive trend in the province.
Despite these advancements, a detailed analysis reveals that the improvement is not uniform. The gender gap remains a distinct feature, with 30,702 women unemployed (62.4% of the total) compared to 18,507 men (37.6%). This disparity indicates that women face greater obstacles in accessing and retaining employment. Regarding age, youth unemployment affects 4,258 individuals under 25 years old, while the majority, 44,951 people, are older, suggesting a structural problem beyond young workers.
By sector, services lead the reduction in unemployment with 408 fewer jobless individuals, followed by construction (173 fewer) and industry (93 fewer). However, agriculture bucks this trend by adding 143 unemployed in March, a common phenomenon due to the seasonality of agricultural campaigns. Interestingly, this sector also leads monthly hiring, indicating high labor turnover.
Hiring has shown significant dynamism, with 30,125 contracts signed in March, an increase of 19.17% compared to February and 42.94% more than in the same month last year. Of these, 11,584 were permanent (38.4%) and 18,541 were temporary (61.6%), indicating that while job stability is progressing, temporary employment remains predominant. Agriculture and services account for the majority of these contracts.
Regarding social protection, February's data shows that 41,237 people in the province received unemployment benefits, with a total expenditure of 43.28 million euros. Most beneficiaries rely on subsidies, highlighting structural weaknesses in the labor market. The average processing time for benefits was 1.75 days, significantly lower than the national average.
Unemployment has also decreased among the foreign population, with 2,392 individuals unemployed and a year-on-year growth of 144.31% in hiring, totaling 5,866 contracts in March. Additionally, 956 foreigners receive benefits, reflecting their growing integration into the Córdoba labor market.
