Unemployment Falls in Granada Driven by Services Sector and Holy Week

The province of Granada records a significant reduction of 1,187 unemployed individuals in March, contributing to the Andalusian decrease.

Unemployment in the province of Granada saw a decrease of 1,187 people during the month of March, a positive trend primarily attributed to the boost from the services sector and the celebration of Holy Week.

This reduction positions Granada as the fourth Andalusian province with the largest drop in unemployment, only surpassed by Cádiz, Seville, and Málaga. At the regional level, Andalusia registered a decrease of 8,836 people, reaching a total of 579,638 unemployed, representing a 1.50% decrease compared to the previous month.
Over the last year, accumulated unemployment in Andalusia has decreased by 63,584 people, a reduction of 9.89%. By sectors, the drop in unemployment across the community was notable in Services (7,351 fewer unemployed), Construction (2,167 fewer), and Industry (527 fewer). However, an increase was observed in the Without Previous Employment group (687 more) and in Agriculture (522 more).
Regarding gender distribution, of the 579,638 unemployed registered in March, 356,643 were women, with a decrease of 5,746 (-1.58%), and 222,995 men, with a reduction of 3,090 (-1.36%). Youth unemployment, for those under 25 years old, also decreased by 442 people, while for those 25 years and older, the drop was 8,394 unemployed.
Hiring in Andalusia during March reached 292,542 contracts, 25.24% less than the previous year. Of these, 124,823 were permanent contracts, representing a 17.64% year-on-year increase, and 167,719 temporary contracts, with a 31.57% increase. Temporary contracts constituted 57.3% of the total, while permanent contracts accounted for 42.7%.
