The Community of Madrid will create a Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Advanced Technologies. This new center, to be located at the Digitaliza Madrid Innovation Center, will bring together specialized experts and resources to optimize the efficiency, security, and utility of the regional administration's projects. It will manage both specialized and quantum computing, and offer support to universities and initiatives in this field.
The Minister of Digitalization announced that the center will develop generative AI tools, such as virtual assistants, and intelligent systems to automate repetitive tasks, including email management, document drafting, and presentation preparation. Additionally, it will feature the first sovereign cloud for AI in an Autonomous Community, an advanced infrastructure for storing, processing, and managing public administration data and AI models, ensuring compliance with European regulations and the upcoming Law on Digital Administration and Artificial Intelligence (LADIA).
To enhance these capabilities, the Madrid government will acquire a quantum computer to be installed at the Polytechnic University (UPM), available for universities, research centers, and companies. "Technology is set to transform the provision of public services and economic activity in the coming years," the minister emphasized. This state-of-the-art infrastructure aims to attract investment, accelerate scientific research, facilitate the transfer of advancements to society, and create highly specialized employment, positioning the region as a national leader.
It was highlighted that AI is already an operational tool serving the administration, businesses, and citizens, with nearly 200 use cases in the Community of Madrid, 102 of which are currently active. The healthcare sector accounts for 76 of these cases, demonstrating its potential to improve diagnoses, streamline processes, and optimize resources. AI is being applied in areas such as justice, housing, transport, and environment, ranging from document automation to conversational assistants and intelligent analysis, fostering a more proactive and personalized administration.
The minister underscored the modernization of the regional administration through tools like Sol, an AI avatar for personalized assistance, and Cuenta Digital, which has surpassed 10 million accesses. The efficiency project has automated processes with 161 robots, resulting in an annual saving of 192,000 hours. The digital economy contributes 30.3% to the region's gross value added, generating 354,596 high-tech jobs. Of the 19,933 companies in these sectors in the region, 30.1% of those with ten or more employees already use AI, a 69% increase in just one year.
