The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced that Madrid's economy grew by 3% last year. This figure is four tenths above the average for Spain (2.6%) and triples the growth of the eurozone (1%), according to the Regional Accounting for the second quarter of 2026.
During the inauguration of the III Madrid Investment Forum, organized by the regional agency Invest in Madrid, Díaz Ayuso detailed that Madrid's Gross Domestic Product advanced by 0.8% compared to the previous quarter, one tenth more than the national average and double that of EU countries, where the economy rose by only 0.4%.
Regional demand has increased by 3.5% year-on-year, with a rise of 2.9% in household spending and 5.6% in gross capital formation, where housing investment grew by 5.3%. From the supply side, the Services sector reached 3.3% annually, highlighting activities in trade, hospitality, transport, and communications, as well as business and financial services, which progressed by 3.6%. Construction and Industry also contributed to this strength with annual increases of 3.1% and 1.5%, respectively.
These figures consolidate the region as the economic engine of Spain, contributing 19.8% of the country's GDP. This dynamism is reflected in the labor market, with 3,871,993 affiliates to Social Security in August, the highest figure for this month since records began. In the last year, 138,115 new jobs have been created, an increase of +3.7%, six tenths higher than the state figure, equivalent to 378 new jobs per day.
