The DRIVEN project will use venomous ribbon worms as models to uncover the genomic mechanisms underlying venom evolution. It will combine techniques such as chromosome-scale genome sequencing, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, and comparative genomics.
The research group, based at the Department of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology of the MNCN-CSIC, investigates the genomic mechanisms of evolutionary innovations in marine invertebrates. Current projects study convergent evolution and the emergence of evolutionary novelties using venom and bioluminescence as model systems.
A postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in comparative genomics and computational biology is sought to lead the bioinformatics component of the project. Main tasks will include genome assembly and annotation, transcriptomics analysis, integration of multi-omics datasets, and development of reproducible workflows.
The position offers a two-year (1+1) fully funded contract with a gross annual salary of approximately €30,000 – €35,000, based on qualifications. Opportunities for international collaboration, conference attendance, and research stays are provided within a supportive and inclusive research environment. The working language will be English.
Eligibility requirements include a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Evolutionary Biology, or a related field, strong programming skills (Python and/or R), and experience with Linux/HPC. Experience with single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, and reproducible workflows is advantageous.
