The Community of Madrid has registered an average of 683,923 foreign affiliates in July, representing an increase of 72,133 employed over the last 12 months, up 11.7%. Compared to June, the month-on-month growth was 1.54%, with an additional 10,384 affiliates.
Of the total foreign affiliates in the region, 52.95% (362,134) are men and 47.05% (321,788) are women. By origin, 28.31% (193,611) come from the European Union, with Romania (80,787), Italy (42,334), and Portugal (16,782) leading. The remaining 71.69% (490,312) come from outside the EU, with Venezuela (81,408), Colombia (70,908), and Peru (48,498) being the most numerous nationalities.
Regarding contribution regimes, 87.96% (601,571) belong to the General Regime. The sectors with the highest number of foreign affiliates are Hospitality (83,436), Administrative Activities (79,123), Commerce (77,774), Construction (64,492), and Transport and Storage (39,991). The Domestic Employees System has 56,598 foreign workers (9.41%). Self-employed foreign workers total 82,195.
The Community of Madrid accounts for 19.47% of the total foreign affiliates in Spain, and 17.5% of the affiliates in the region are foreign.
Nationally, Social Security exceeds 3.5 million average foreign affiliates for the first time in July, a new historical high. The year-on-year growth of foreign affiliation is 13.6%, compared to 2.9% for the entire system. Since June 2022, the number of foreign workers has increased by over 1.2 million.
The extraordinary regularization process has boosted the dynamism of foreign affiliation. As of July 30, 262,475 people had registered as a consequence of this process, of which 81.5% were in the General Regime and 4.8% as self-employed.
Nationally, men represent 53.7% (2,010,267) and women 46.3% (1,501,956) of foreign affiliates. Morocco is the country with the most contributors (415,310), followed by Colombia (347,467) and Romania (342,555).
Foreign workers are particularly relevant in sectors such as Hospitality (32.9%), Agriculture (28%), Construction (26.6%), Administrative Activities (19.5%), and Transport (18.4%). The 86.4% of foreign workers with permanent contracts contrasts with the 58.9% from the 2017-2021 period.
The number of self-employed foreign workers exceeds 531,568, up 9.2% from a year ago. Their growing presence in highly skilled sectors such as Telecommunications and Computer Programming is notable, where they already represent over 33% of the employed.
