The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has launched the first phase of works for the duplication of the N-340 in the section crossing Orpesa. This project, involving an investment of 28.5 million euros, was awarded to the company Aldesa Construcciones last December and has an execution period of 30 months, with the new road expected to be operational by 2028.
According to information provided by the Ministry, the works have begun with the felling of existing trees. The project includes the conditioning of the current route and the reorganization of road accesses. Among the planned improvements, a new interchange at La Renegá, the redesign of the Orpesa semi-interchange, and improved connection with the AP-7 stand out.
The main objective is to condition the current N-340, between kilometers 992 and 998, to become the first carriageway of a future road duplication. This measure seeks to optimize traffic conditions and increase road safety in the area.
The project also contemplates the modification of some existing intersections and semi-interchanges. At the La Renegá interchange, a new diamond-type interchange with a lower roundabout will be designed to facilitate access to this area and the karting track. Regarding the Orpesa semi-interchange, the current split-level interchange will be transformed into a diamond-type configuration, maintaining the underpass. Finally, at the interchange with the AP-7, the current T-intersection will be replaced by a trumpet-type split-level interchange, allowing all possible movements between the N-340 and the AP-7.
This project was reactivated by the Central Government in 2023, after being paralyzed in 2011 due to the financial crisis. The Ministry of Transport has planned an investment of 20 million euros for 2026 and the remaining 8.5 million for 2027.
