Easter Week in 2026 has proven to be a strategic opportunity for local businesses in the province of Castellón, thanks to high tourist influx and increased travel.

The general secretary of Confecomerç in Castellón, Tere Esteve, emphasized that this holiday period had a notable impact, especially in coastal and inland tourist areas. In these municipalities, local commerce was key to absorbing and capitalizing on the increase in consumption.

"This scenario has had a particularly notable impact in the most tourist areas of the province, both on the coast and in inland enclaves with high demand, where most of the visitors' spending on commerce, hospitality, and services has been concentrated. In these municipalities, proximity commerce is positioned as a key player to absorb and capitalize on this increase in consumption."

The demand, predominantly national and local, directly benefited physical stores, restaurants, and services. One of the traditions that most boosted consumption was the Mona de Pascua (Easter cake), with an estimated 120,000 units sold, driving the sale of associated products like chocolate, beverages, and picnic items.
The tourist campaign in Castellón was characterized by three factors: a high concentration of demand over a few days, leading to impulsive purchases; the positive influence of the weather, which activated consumption in terraces and spring-summer fashion; and the prevalence of short day trips, favoring local commerce.
Regarding store openings, on Easter Monday, April 6, most large stores will remain closed. However, small shops and some supermarkets will open in the morning in areas declared high tourist zones by the Generalitat Valenciana, such as Alcossebre, Peñíscola, Benicàssim, Segorbe, Oropesa, Chilches, Almenara, or Moncófar, with reduced hours.
