Unemployment in the Valencian Community Reaches Lowest March Figure Since 2008

The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 2,467 in March, totaling 288,162, with declines across all sectors except 'Without previous employment'.

The number of unemployed individuals in the Valencian Community saw a decrease of 2,467 in March, bringing the total to 288,162, the lowest figure for this month since 2008, according to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.

This 0.8% reduction compared to the previous month marks the second consecutive month of falling unemployment in the region. Since the beginning of the comparable historical series in 1996, the month of March has registered decreases on most occasions in the Valencian Community, specifically in 15 out of 21 times.
Over the last year, the number of unemployed has decreased by 19,440 people, representing a 6.3% drop. By sector, most contributed to this improvement: Services recorded 1,658 fewer unemployed (-0.81%), followed by Construction with 658 fewer (-3.19%), Industry with 310 fewer (-0.92%), and Agriculture with 42 fewer (-0.6%). The only exception was the 'Without previous employment' sector, which saw an increase of 201 people (+0.87%).
Regarding gender distribution, of the 288,162 unemployed individuals registered in March, 176,955 were women, with a reduction of 1,632 (-0.9%), and 111,207 were men, with a decrease of 835 (-0.7%). However, youth unemployment among those under 25 years old increased by 238 people (+1.3%), while for those aged 25 and over, it fell by 2,705 (-0.99%).
The reduction in unemployment was observed in all Valencian provinces: Alicante led the decline with 1,213 fewer unemployed, followed by Valencia with 879 fewer, and Castellón with 375 fewer. Nationally, the Valencian Community was one of the regions with the largest decrease in unemployment, along with Andalusia and Catalonia.
As for hiring, 118,624 contracts were registered in the Valencian Community in March, a 10.5% increase from the previous year. Of these, 62,168 were permanent contracts, 15% higher than in March of the previous year, and 56,456 were temporary, with a 5.9% increase.
