The province of Granada experienced a significant drop in unemployment during March 2026, recording the lowest number of jobless individuals since 2008, thanks to the boost from the service and construction sectors, favored by the early arrival of Easter Week.
The number of unemployed people in Granada stood at 65,559 at the end of March, marking a milestone as the lowest figure since 2008, prior to the global financial crisis. This decrease of 1,187 people compared to February represents a 1.78% drop, significantly outperforming last year's data.
The service sector, especially hospitality and tourism, has been the main driver of this improvement, with 984 new hires. Construction also contributed significantly, adding 246 jobs, reflecting the dynamism of the real estate market in the province. Together, these two sectors generated 1,230 jobs.

"The hirings made for this period are very noticeable in the Granada labor market, which has a strong dependence on the Service sector, characterized by high temporality and great instability. We need quality jobs that do not exclusively depend on seasonal cycles."
Despite these positive figures, seasonality remains a predominant characteristic of Granada's labor market. 67.12% of job seekers, a total of 44,005 people, are concentrated in the service sector. Industry also saw a reduction in unemployment with 35 new jobs, while agriculture experienced a slight increase of 14 unemployed individuals. The group of people without previous employment also grew with 64 new job seekers.
Regarding contracts, 29,878 were registered in March, an increase of 24.54% compared to the same month last year. Of these, 42.1% (12,592) were permanent, representing a 29.3% increase compared to February. The general secretary of the Granada Confederation of Business Owners (CGE), María Vera, highlighted the strength of the tourism sector and the positive impact of the early Easter Week on job creation.

"After a rather negative start to the year, the good data from March have corrected the course and allowed us to recover just over half of the affiliation lost since the end of 2025."
