The Xunta de Galicia has opened a call for public rural educational centers to participate in the Xira miniCITEEC program, which brings science and engineering through practical workshops based on models.

The program, promoted by the Center for Technological Innovation in Building and Civil Engineering (CITEEC) of the Universidade da Coruña (UDC), aims to awaken scientific curiosity and foster technological vocations among students in early childhood, primary, and compulsory secondary education. The initiative seeks to bring knowledge from civil engineering through educational activities adapted to each educational stage.
The call, published on October 23rd, is aimed at public centers dependent on the Consellería de Educación, Ciencia, Universidades y Formación Profesional located in rural areas that have a Creative Hub during the 2026/2027 academic year and face difficulties in traveling to the CITEEC facilities in A Coruña.
Technical and research staff from CITEEC will visit selected centers with functional models of real devices used in their research. Through these tools, students will be able to discover principles and processes of civil engineering in a practical way, with the collaboration of the Creative Hubs advisory team.
This initiative contributes to reducing barriers to scientific outreach and bringing university research closer to rural educational centers, promoting active learning and direct contact with science and technology.
The registration period closes on November 15th, 2026. Interested centers must submit their application through the form available on the Xunta de Galicia's Creative Hubs portal: https://centros.edu.xunta.gal/poloscreativos/. The complete bases can be consulted at https://www.edu.xunta.gal/portal/node/51082.
miniCITEEC is a scientific outreach initiative by CITEEC (UDC) that brings research in civil engineering and building to all audiences through a traveling exhibition of scale reproductions of laboratory machines and equipment, offering practical demonstrations to understand scientific and technological concepts in a visual, interactive, and accessible way.
