The Torrejón de Ardoz City Council has hired 100 unemployed residents for various municipal tasks, an initiative coinciding with the reduction of unemployment to its lowest level in 17 years in the locality.

These new employees have been incorporated in two phases, starting on October 1st with 30 individuals, including office assistants and construction laborers. The second phase, on November 1st, added 70 more people, filling roles such as cleaning, construction, gardening, and waste collection laborers. All programs are designed to foster employment and professional training.
Youth employment promotion programs are co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) 2021/2027 and managed by the Community of Madrid. Public employment-training programs receive funding from the State Public Employment Service, also distributed by the Community of Madrid. The selection of participants, all residents of Torrejón de Ardoz, was carried out by the Community of Madrid Employment Office.
During the 10-month duration of these programs, workers not only perform practical tasks such as painting, bricklaying, and gardening, but also receive training. Upon completion, they will obtain a full Professional Certificate in their respective specialties. Additionally, they receive continuous support from a learning tutor and a career counselor to facilitate their future integration into the job market.

"One of my commitments is to promote the creation of more and better employment for the people of Torrejón, boosting the magnificent new industrial estates, creating quality employment and providing added value that strengthens the Torrejón City of Fashion brand, positioning us as a territory attractive for investment and job creation."

Alejandro Navarro Prieto · Mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz
The initiative is part of an improving local labor market. Torrejón de Ardoz recorded in March 2026 the lowest unemployment figure for this month in 17 years, with a total of 6,370 people out of work. This figure contrasts significantly with the 14,391 unemployed in March 2013, despite an increase of 7,510 people in the active population, which now reaches 99,130.
