The recently established FOET, which comprises about twenty companies and business associations from the region, has been presented with the aim of succeeding the defunct Confederació Empresarial de la Província de Tarragona (CEPTA). Its president emphasized the importance of ensuring continuity in business representation in Camp de Tarragona.
Among the new association's priorities, support for the very high voltage (MAT) power line connecting Aragon with Tarragona has been highlighted, as well as advocating for the extension of the operational life of the Ascó and Vandellós nuclear power plants. These stances reflect FOET's vision for energy and infrastructure development in the area.
“"The people coming out of schools, vocational training, and universities, who arrive at companies, do not have either the attitude or the learning that we need."
The creation of FOET comes a couple of years after CEPTA ceased operations due to financial difficulties. The president of the new entity acknowledged the past mistakes of the former confederation, stating that it "grew a lot, failed to adapt to new times, and died," and expressed the intention to learn from these experiences to avoid repeating them.
One of the fundamental challenges that FOET aims to tackle is education, considering that "the school has somewhat lost its purpose, it is too soft." The association advocates for strengthening the authority of teachers and adapting training to the needs of the labor market, so that young people acquire the attitudes and knowledge required by businesses. Other issues such as infrastructure, bureaucracy, and tax pressure are also on the new organization's agenda.
The presentation of FOET, which took place at the private resort Infinitum in Salou, was attended by the president of Foment del Treball. He announced that FOET will hold a vice-presidency in the next board of the Catalan business association, at a time when Foment del Treball is in the midst of an electoral process. The president of Foment del Treball confirmed that he is the sole candidate for re-election, with the expectation of being proclaimed president again on May 18.
