The Generalitat government has approved its participation in the commercial company to establish the European artificial intelligence gigafactory in Móra la Nova, Terres de l'Ebre.

The Generalitat Government has taken a decisive step to promote the establishment of the European artificial intelligence gigafactory in Catalonia. The Executive Council approved last Tuesday its participation in the commercial company so that Móra la Nova, in Terres de l’Ebre, can host this major digital and data management infrastructure of the future. The creation of this entity, with public-private collaboration and aimed at leading the project, is the essential requirement to compete for the European candidacy.
The project involves the participation of the Generalitat, the Spanish government, and technology and financial companies promoting the initiative. The Catalan executive's representation will be through INCASÒL, while the Spanish government will be present through the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation. Precisely yesterday, the Council of Ministers authorized an investment of 719 million euros in favor of this company through the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function.
Following the Government meeting, spokesperson Sílvia Paneque stated that they are “absolutely sure that this candidacy meets all the elements for success” and will ensure that “European investment reaches Terres de l’Ebre” by the end of the year.
Paneque emphasized that this is a “definitive step for a very important project for Catalonia and Europe”. In this regard, the spokesperson highlighted that the gigafactory will serve “to achieve technological sovereignty regarding which data is managed and where it is stored in Europe”.
The company establishes its headquarters in Móra la Nova, thus consolidating the Government's commitment to Terres de l’Ebre, and specifically the Ribera d’Ebre region; it also fosters the territorial rootedness necessary for the project.
