Between January and August 2026, a total of 419,708.7 tons of cement were sold in the Canary Islands, representing a 4.4% increase compared to the same period last year. This data comes from the Wholesale Cement Sales Statistics published monthly by the Canary Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
By island, El Hierro recorded the largest increase in accumulated sales up to August, with 32.2% more. It is followed by Lanzarote with a rise of 30.9%. In contrast, La Gomera experienced a sales decrease of over 11%, and La Palma also saw a decline of 9.3%.
In the specific month of August, 44,781.6 tons of cement were sold, which represents a reduction of almost 8% compared to the same month in 2025. Wholesale cement sales are considered an indirect indicator of construction activity in the islands.
