The Development Society of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council assisted 139 entrepreneurs between January 1 and August 31, 2026, through its Business Advisory Service. The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted that this free service offers comprehensive support for launching new projects as well as for consolidating and growing existing businesses.
Thanks to this personalized advice, 20 new companies have started their activity: 17 as sole traders and three through the establishment of a Limited Liability Company. The mayor expressed satisfaction with the materialization of business initiatives and the determination of those seeking to turn their ideas into their way of life.
The CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, stated that entrepreneurship is a constantly growing option and that public institutions must support those who generate self-employment. She indicated that the service aims to be a close and useful resource to help entrepreneurs make decisions.
During the first eight months of the year, the service processed 20 new business registrations across 16 different economic sectors. Beverage establishments account for 20% of these registrations, followed by businesses in the service, commerce, health, and construction sectors, demonstrating the diversity of entrepreneurship.
Carmen Pérez emphasized the work done to personalize processes, adapting to the characteristics and needs of each company, project, and individual. Ten Business Plans were developed to organize and specify projects, analyze viability, and define a roadmap, helping to identify needs and clarify the business model and required investment.
The service allows individuals to advance in the necessary steps to launch a project during the session itself. It includes processing the business registration to start operations, making the entire process simpler and more agile for those who decide to become entrepreneurs.
In terms of financing, eight microcredit applications were processed to facilitate access to funding without collateral for entrepreneurs with viable projects. The service also assisted businesses already in operation; 10 of the advised individuals already had active companies.
Pérez stressed that companies' needs do not end with their establishment; new doubts often arise when it comes to consolidation, seeking financing, or planning new growth avenues. Therefore, support is also provided to existing businesses.
The profile of the individuals advised shows that 43.9% were women and 56.1% were men, with 71.9% residing in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. 64.8% had higher or technical education (35.3% university and 29.5% vocational training).
The age group between 46 and 55 years represents 29.5% of those assisted. Entrepreneurship is increasingly an alternative for professional reorientation for experienced and educated individuals, as well as an alternative to unemployment.
