The Tajogaite eruption, which lasted for 85 days starting in September 2021, resulted in the formation of two new landmasses on the coast of Tazacorte, covering approximately 48 hectares. The island administration is currently working on the execution phase of the project following approval from the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea.
The plan aims to balance environmental protection with scientific research and the development of activities linked to the blue economy. Planned actions include improving access to the new beaches and reorganizing existing infrastructure, such as the irrigation pipeline supplying banana plantations in Las Hoyas and El Remo, with a focus on natural landscape integration.
Collaboration with the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (Plocan) and the future Blue Innovation Center (BIC) at the port of Tazacorte is essential to establish the area as a hub for marine knowledge transfer. Studies conducted under the Delta project confirm that the marine ecosystem is recovering faster than anticipated, allowing for the recolonization of various species.
