During a meeting held in Fuerteventura with social and business agents, regional officials assessed the positive evolution of safety indicators. Between January and May 2026, the island recorded 744 accidents involving sick leave, of which 742 were minor and two were serious, with no fatalities reported in the workplace.
The administration has linked these results to the increase in the employed population and improvements in employment figures. The main objective of current policies focuses on risk prevention, especially in sectors such as hospitality, construction, and retail.
“"We have reduced the total number of workplace accidents by 47 compared to the same period in 2025, also recording two fewer serious accidents and, most importantly, no fatal accidents."
To consolidate this trend, new subsidy lines and technical advisory programs have been scheduled. Additionally, the Labor Inspectorate has strengthened its preventive work on the island, carrying out more than 1,300 actions in the first five months of the year, with the main focus being to advise companies on improving safety and health conditions.
