The biotechnology multinational CSL, of Australian origin and specializing in rare diseases and vaccines, has officially opened its new headquarters in Spain in Barcelona. The unification of CSL Vifor and CSL Behring under the single brand CSL consolidates the Catalan capital as its strategic operations center.
With a presence in over 100 countries, CSL annually helps millions of people with plasma-derived and recombinant therapies, covering areas such as immunology, hematology, vaccines, and respiratory diseases. The company, which has more than 29,000 employees worldwide, is a leader in treatments for hemophilia, immunodeficiencies, flu vaccines, and therapies for iron deficiency and kidney diseases.
António Charrua, General Manager of CSL Iberia, emphasized that the new headquarters in Barcelona "reinforces the company's commitment to being even closer to patients, healthcare professionals, and the institutions." He highlighted the $1.4 billion investment in R&D last year and the 59 ongoing clinical trials, which have resulted in the introduction of three new therapies in Spain: Hemgenix, Filspari, and Andembry.
The headquarters, located on Avenida Diagonal, marks a new phase of expansion for CSL in Spain. The group's projected global revenue for this year is around $15.6 billion.
The Australian Ambassador to Spain, Rosemary Morris-Castico, and the Councilor for Health of the Barcelona City Council, Marta Villanueva, attended the inauguration. Villanueva highlighted CSL's importance in positioning Barcelona as a scientific and technological hub, noting that the life sciences sector is the third largest economic activity in Catalonia.
