According to provisional data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), the Archipelago maintained its national leadership in this accommodation segment, although it experienced a 4.4% drop compared to July 2025. Notably, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Mogán are among the Spanish municipalities with the highest number of overnight stays in apartments, alongside Benidorm.
These figures highlight the significance of Gran Canaria, particularly its southern region, as a tourist hub. Nationally, overnight stays in non-hotel accommodations exceeded 22.5 million in July, a 0.9% increase from the previous year.
The national tourist apartment market remained stable year-on-year in July. Overnight stays by Spanish residents rose by 3.8%, while those by non-resident visitors decreased by 2.2%. The average stay per traveler shortened by 7.3%, settling at 4.8 nights.
Despite the 4.4% year-on-year decline, the Canary Islands reaffirmed its status as a preferred destination, exceeding 2.5 million overnight stays. In terms of occupancy, the Balearic Islands achieved the highest rate, with 83.3% of offered apartments occupied. International tourism remains crucial, accounting for 62.2% of apartment overnight stays in Spain, with the United Kingdom as the primary source market (30.1%).
Nationally, the occupancy rate for tourist apartment places in July was 52.3%, up 3.8% from the previous year. Weekend occupancy grew by 2.1%, reaching 54.8%.
The INE report confirms the prominence of southern Gran Canaria, with San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Mogán positioned among the leading national destinations for apartment accommodation, reinforcing their importance in the tourism offer.
By tourist zones, the Costa Blanca led in overnight stays with over 1.2 million, and Mallorca had the highest occupancy rate (87.6%). However, the Canary Islands topped the regional leadership in the number of nights.
The increase in tourist demand coincided with a rise in prices. The Tourist Apartment Price Index rose by 6.2% in July compared to the same month in 2025. Campsites saw a 6.3% increase, and rural tourism accommodations raised their prices by 1.5%.
