The Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation, and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands has announced the final resolution of the subsidy call for innovation projects in priority areas of the Canary Islands' Strategy for Smart and Sustainable Specialization (RIS3 expanded). The management of these grants falls to the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation, and Information Society (ACIISI).
This initiative will fund 24 business projects with a total allocation of five million euros. Co-financing comes from the FEDER Canarias 2021-2027 Programme, covering 85% of the costs, which has allowed the full available credit to be utilized.
The call represents a significant advancement compared to the previous edition, which in 2025 funded ten projects with two million euros. This year, the budget has increased to five million, enabling support for 24 business initiatives linked to strategic sectors for the archipelago's economic development.
Minister Migdalia Machín highlighted the budgetary increase, which has more than doubled the number of supported projects, from ten to 24. She noted that the 203 submitted applications demonstrate a business ecosystem with the capacity and ambition to innovate, encouraging further strengthening of such calls.
The grants support projects developing innovative solutions in fields such as artificial intelligence, industrial digitalization, energy transition, the blue economy, health, sustainability, mobility, smart tourism, and technologies applied to the primary sector. The aim is to enhance companies' ability to transform knowledge into products and services with economic and social impact.
With this resolution, the Government of the Canary Islands consolidates its support for the innovative capacity of the business fabric and accelerates the adoption of new technologies in strategic sectors. This contributes to a more diversified, competitive, and knowledge-based economic model, in line with the objectives of the RIS3 expanded and the FEDER Canarias 2021-2027 Programme.
