Ubrique Prepares for 'Bajo la Piel' Fair Focusing on Leather Industry

The municipality of Ubrique is gearing up for the third edition of the 'Bajo la Piel' Fair, an event set to take place from May 21 to 24, aiming to reinforce its status as a national and international hub for the leather goods industry.

The fair, which has become a fixture in the festive calendar of the Sierra region, will offer a diverse program over four days, blending art, tradition, music, gastronomy, and fashion. This year's motto, 'The craft that beats beneath the Skin,' underscores the essence of this celebration.
Activities will commence on Thursday, May 21, with a round table bringing together local sponsoring brands. The inaugural day will also feature gastronomic events, concerts, and the official opening ceremony, where the Patacabra de honor award will be presented to a tanning entrepreneur.
Friday, May 22, will be dedicated to educational activities for schools in Ubrique and a sectoral round table with representatives from Movex, Asopiel, and the School of Artisans and Tanners. This day will also mark the celebration of Petaquero's Day, with recognitions for industry ambassadors and Security Forces, alongside musical performances and a fashion show.
On Saturday, May 23, the agenda includes a round table for painters and photographers, and a twinning ceremony between Ubrique and the city of Igualada, held at the San Pedro hermitage. A highlight will be the organization of a castells, human towers declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, performed by members from Igualada. The leather fair will also feature bullfights and musical acts.
Finally, on Sunday, May 24, the fair will conclude with various performances and attractions throughout the streets. A youth photography contest will also be held during this third edition of 'Bajo la Piel'.
