The Mijas City Council has announced that the average payment period to suppliers currently stands at less than 24 days (specifically 23.71 days), marking the best figure recorded in the last 11 years. This achievement was revealed during the ordinary September plenary session, where the mayor, Ana Mata, and the Councillor for Economy, Mario Bravo, presented the Treasury report.
For the second consecutive month, the average payment period has remained below the legally established 30 days, a situation that did not occur during the previous term (2019-2023), when it consistently exceeded the legal limit. This indicator is crucial for assessing the institution's efficiency in managing and paying municipal suppliers.
Mario Bravo attributed this success to the reorganization of municipal management implemented by the governing team, highlighting the establishment of the Budgetary Management and Accounting Office one year ago, in September 2025. The annual approval of municipal budgets and the adoption of electronic administration have also been key factors.
In other news, the plenary session approved an extraordinary budget modification of 4,250,000 euros for the connection of Mijas Pueblo to the so-called ‘water highway’. This project will modernize obsolete pipelines over 40 years old along the Costa del Sol.
The approved funds will be used to partially finance the construction of a water supply pipeline from the El Lagarejo reservoir to the regulating reservoir at the town's quarry. The proposal received the support of the governing team and Ciudadanos, while the PSOE voted against it.
Mario Bravo explained the urgency of the project due to the population growth in Mijas and the need to ensure water supply against potential future water crises. The pipeline is being tendered by Acosol, a public company dependent on the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, which is also contributing to the construction costs.
Finally, the plenary session approved two motions in support of the city of Ceuta, presented by the PP and VOX parties, and rejected a similar motion from the PSOE.
