The project, promoted by Adif, has an investment of 345 million euros and aims to adapt the line for transporting semi-trailers by train. This model seeks to encourage the shift of heavy cargo from road to rail, improving the logistics efficiency of the Port of Algeciras.
Works will focus on the section between Algeciras and San Fernando de Henares. Interventions include modifying clearances in 34 tunnels, 104 overpasses, and 18 metal bridges, as well as stabilization work on the slope between Almargen and Setenil.
Due to the scale of the construction, rail traffic will be suspended between Algeciras and Venta de Cárdenas. During this period, alternative routes have been established for freight trains, utilizing lines such as Huelva-Zafra or Los Rosales-Zafra to ensure operational continuity.
