The autonomous community has achieved a significant milestone in its labor market, closing May with 548,120 unemployed individuals, a figure not seen since April 2008. This decrease occurred in a month that, while positive, showed a slightly slower pace of improvement compared to previous years.
Concurrently, Andalusia has set a new record for average Social Security affiliation, reaching 3,619,811 contributors. This marks the second consecutive month that over 3.6 million affiliates have been recorded, although this figure is expected to decrease during the summer months, which are traditionally weaker for the region's employment.
In month-on-month terms, affiliation grew by 17,529 people in May compared to April, primarily driven by provinces such as Málaga, and to a lesser extent by Cádiz and Córdoba. However, this figure represents the second-worst increase for a May month since 2016.
Unemployment, on the other hand, decreased by 9,125 people. The largest reductions were concentrated in Málaga, Cádiz, and Granada. While this figure is positive, it is considered the second-best data point since 2015 (surpassed only by 2023), suggesting a slight cooling in the labor market rather than a change in trend.
In the annual comparison, Andalusia has reduced the number of unemployed by 57,744 people compared to May of the previous year. Regarding job creation, 76,423 new affiliates were added over the past year. Both indicators show a slight deceleration in the pace of improvement compared to previous months.
