The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function has formalized the awarding of construction works for the semiconductor center in Málaga TechPark, with an investment exceeding 168 million euros.

The construction of the future cutting-edge semiconductor center in Málaga TechPark, the technology hub in Málaga, has been awarded for over 168 million euros. This project, which will be managed by IMEC, is considered a strategic initiative to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem in Spain and Europe.
The tender was divided into two main lots. The first, valued at 163.4 million euros (indirect taxes not included), corresponds to the construction of the center's cleanroom. This contract has been awarded to the Temporary Business Union (UTE) formed by OHL, Construcciones Sánchez Domínguez Sando, and Innovaciones Técnicas y Recursos Constructivos, S.A.
The second lot, amounting to 4.9 million euros (indirect taxes not included), will be used for the construction of the power plant that will supply energy to the facility. This contract has been awarded to Grupo Render Industrial, S.L.
The center, managed by IMEC, a leader in chip and semiconductor research, will focus on prototyping next-generation chips. Its activity aims to position Spain and Europe at the forefront of future technological processes, with applications in fields such as medicine, photonics, and quantum computing.
This will be the first advanced 300 mm semiconductor R&D facility in Spain, including up to 2,000 square meters of cleanroom and over 60 advanced processing tools. The Government of Spain has committed 500 million euros to this project, framed within the Perte Chip, with the aim of boosting R&D investment and supporting startups.
